Updated August 8th, 2014: For those of us who upgraded to the 2014 versions of Quicken immediately after its release in late-September, it’s been a bumpy upgrade. Even though most of the initial bugs were quickly fixed, a lot of us loyal users are already looking forward to the 2015 release. Predicting the release date is not that difficult as we see Quicken products coming out at about the exact same time every year. Here are our expectations. Quicken 2015 versions are expected to be available for pre-order in mid-September and in-store shelf’s by the end of the month.
Expected Quicken 2015 Release Date The one abnormally was last year’s release where we saw it first available at Amazon and other larger resellers about 10 day BEFORE it become available at the official. Usually, it’s the other way around where the Quicken Store has the new versions on sale a few day’s before everyone else. What was new in the 2014 version? The 2014 versions of Quicken brought a few incremental improvements with our favorite being the “snap and store receipts” feature on our iPhone. This year brought a complementary app which let’s you take a photo and save some of your most important receipts (helpful at places where you pay cash – for us, that’s usually at Costco).
So instead on manually important the data once is a while like I used to do, the app does it for me. We also saw some other improvements in the 2014 version including improved mobile app syncing and faster bill-pay. But we won’t go into the details here as you can read it all in our full. Our Quicken 2015 wish list As users of Quicken Deluxe since 2007, it seems like there is always room for improvements with each release. Here are some that top our wish list:. A better iOS App – While we find the current app extremely useful, we’ve found it to be a little “too robust” for our liking and harder to use than necessary. We’re still not able to get it to properly sync to our Bank of America accounts (our Chase accounts are no problem) and it takes a while to it to sync with our desktop data files (should be immediate).
Similar experiences were reported on the Android app as well (it’s not yet available for Windows Phone 8). Increase support for older versions – We all know that Quicken drops support for the older versions 3 years after it’s initial release. If would be great to be able to buy an “extended support” version or to be able to add on support to an existing version for a nominal fee. It’s nice to have the option to stay on a selected version without being required to upgrade to a version where we might not necessary like the new interface changes or changed features. More support for Mac’s An all new Quicken Mac 2015 version is coming! – We all know that most of Quicken’s programs are compatible with PC-only operating systems with the Mac version seemly being forgotten. Well, that an entirely new Quicken for Mac is in the works and being built from scratch.
It will feature a new user interface with better investment capabilities and support for Quicken mobile (including receipt capture) from your iPhone. You’ll also be able to backup and sync your data in the cloud with the Quicken Cloud. Fix the bugs BEFORE the public release – I must say, in the last decade that I’ve been following Quicken, the 2014 release must have been to worst yet. A number of critical bugs were not fixed before it went on sale causing a lot of customers to report program crashes, random instability when entering transactions, and corrupted files to occur causing data loss. Although most of the major issues were fixed a few weeks after the initial release, this should have been addressed beforehand and the new program thoroughly tested by their beta testers. What do you want to see changed in Quicken 2015?
What would you like to see changed, improved or added in the 2015 release of Quicken? Leave your thoughts and comments below!
Ok, so after nearly a half hour on the phone now, I’ve been told that they can cancel my order and process a refund which I should see in about 10 days. I pointed out to them that it’s utterly ridiculous for them to have already charged my card for a pre-order that is two weeks out, but the rep really did not care. They can’t provide an email or any other confirmation of a canceled order. I’ll just have to monitor my credit card I guess. This whole sequence of events today has me thinking of seeing if any of the other personal finance managers are up to par. There is no longer any such thing as customer service.
I would like to see Fixed Asset Management added to Quicken. Home Inventory is poor. Fixed Asset Management means being able to amortize the value of all significant/major asset purchases over the life of the assets by month. It means allowing me to manage these assets with maintenance plans and record keeping, and reminders. It means allowing me to be able to prepare, budget, and plan for replacement of these items as they wear out. It means allowing me to manage the warranties provided by the manufacturers for these assets. It means allowing me to tie these assets to manufacturing recalls and safety notices.
It means allowing me to keep fuel consumption and mileage records for my autos. Several items: 1. Please fix the graphs. They were fine in 2012 but now are low resolution with many fewer points. Not only that but they look horrible now. The dots that show the values are way too large compared to in previous versions.
Allow for another level in accounts. For example Utilities – TV – Directv/Dish/Netflix 3. When backing up please don’t reset registers and views. As an example, after a backup, All Transactions goes back to the end of the list regardless of where it was when I last edited it. Years ago, in the retirement planner, when you were trying to find out if your plan worked, there was an option offered to have Quicken hold all variables but one steady and find the value for that one variable that would make your plan work. For example, if your money ran out in 20 years instead of your desired 40 years, you could hold everything steady but have Quicken calculate what rate of return would make the plan work – or what monthly contribution to savings would make it work – or what level of annual expenses would make it work – etc. They stopped this capability many versions ago, so now if your plan doesn’t work, all you can do is do trial-and-error on various parameters to try to figure out how to make it work.
Based on my observations from past few years, Quicken DESKTOP RELEASES (I am not talking of the mobile apps which are very much welcome but only for the desktop versions) has not been very aggressive in coming up with new features in new versions and it is mostly a cosmetic exercise for the desktop version at least. I feel that there are real “genuine value addition” features that Quicken can add to the desktop version to make it extremely more powerful than what it already is. To be honest, there are some new features like Debt Reduction Planner and for Budget and related reports, but that is about it.
In a way, these are very useful features. But if you think from a different perspective, people who use Quicken “religiously” are according to my personal opinion, much less likely to go overboard with their finances or take too much of debt. At the same time, there will be at least a sizable amount of people who use Quicken to manage and grow their investments by using Quicken investment features and reports. There might be many others whose use is limited to day to day balancing of their accounts. Hence, it is in the best interest of everyone that all categories of features of Quicken are improved over time and not only selected categories. The features that I am missing most in Quicken Premier (or all versions till 2014 Premier) are related with Investments.
– No support for few widely used asset classes in its naming convention. Most stocks fall under Small Cap, Large Cap and “Mid Cap”. Quicken does not have provision for “Mid Cap” until now. In fact, Quicken mentions in its Help File that mid cap is not supported and also gives reason for doing so. – No support for asset classes like Commodities, Currencies etc. (at least not that I am aware of). Investment Transactions Features – Setting High and Low alerts for each stock which could be triggered to remind the investor that it might be time to sell/buy the specific stock.
This is similar to the other alerts which remind users when account balances go over or under a specified limit. – Using Tags for specific transactions and allowing saved reports, portfolio views etc. To use the tag as a filtering criteria (e.g.
I can use this to tag transactions that I have done using lumpsum payments vis-a-vis automatic investments done every month or for tagging transactions to indicate that they have been done during a huge market crash vis-a-vis at other times. When I take report to find returns for these tagged transactions, I will be able to find returns for lumpsum transactions, transactions during huge stock market crash etc. Or even exclude them from reports so that I get a better view of returns in normal times etc.) It should be possible to assign multiple tags if required.
This is very much similar to the normal bank account register tags usage. International Stock Prices Support – People who reside in USA also have investments in other countries, particularly for people who have come from other countries. A lot of people are from outside USA. They do manage both their USA investments and non USA investments using Quicken. However, no support to download stock, mutual fund and other stock prices or asset classes and other fundamental data for stocks/mutual funds traded in any other country is available yet. – No support for transactions carried out on Margin for derivative products like futures and options. I want to find the absolute gain/loss, ROI%, ARR etc.
For the actual amount that I have used in margin transactions (margin amount) rather than the total contract value. On reports and portfolio views front, Saved Reports In readily available or customizable (saved) reports and graphs, – I can use average annualized return for ALL dates but I do not have option to use Absolute Gain/Loss or ROI% as a field for display.
– Fields cannot be sorted. I cannot sort a report by ARR field and have to go through entire report to find the highest and lowest ARR return.
– I cannot filter out or include “Closed lots” like the Portfolio view. It would be nice to have a facility which provides a mechanism to include all stocks in the report where current holding is 0. (Closed lots). It should also be possible to include all stocks in the report where current holding is 0 (Currently held stocks).
When I use Reports/Investing/Capital Gains report and Customize this report, then go to Securities tab, it has “Select Securities” on left hand side and it shows on right hand side a box which says “Matching, Security contains”. This is used for finding all securities with a specific string or characters in it(e.g.
Apple will be selected in report but not Microsoft when I type A here. Similarly, if I type M here, Microsoft will be selected but not Apple). Although this is useful, the more useful filtering criteria could be to select Security contains to specify holdings for the selected securities in the Accounts selected in the Accounts Tab. This should ideally allow to enter (= 0, Greater Then 0, Less Then 0, Not Equal to 0 etc.). This can then be used to report all securities that I am currently holding ( 0), all securities that I have already sold out completely (= 0 or closed lots in other words). In today’s day and age when markets are pretty volatile, it is very important to know what your returns are on your current holdings (as you can probably do something about it) versus returns for securities that are completely sold out (not much chance to take any action here as these securities are no longer available in the portfolio). Currently, I do this manually by selecting / deselecting securities that I hold / have sold out everytime I buy or sell securities and want to see this report.
– Last but not the least, the report layout on screen should be changed to make it more appealing and conforming to Windows standards. (Sorting, Changing the column positions by dragging and dropping them etc.) Investment (Portfolio views), – I can use absolute gain/loss and ROI but I cannot use average annualized return for ALL dates. I can use ARR only for a specific number of years. – It should be possible by user to define a specific asset allocation across different security types as also different asset classes and generate an AUTOMATIC alert if the asset allocation deviates from the user defined one and also have a tolerance limit which is again user definable) so that the alert gets generated only if the asset allocation falls outside the user-defined range (including tolerance limits). A limited way of doing this is available in ideal portfolio view. – Number of custom views should be increased.
What-If Analysis As of now, Quicken does not have many features for what-if analysis for Investment. What will be my investment performance (ARR%, ROI%, Return or anything that can be measured using Saved Reports or Portfolio Views in Quicken etc.) be if – If all the stocks/mutual funds etc. That I hold increase / decrease by n%. (I can use this to see how my returns will be affected to check if each stock increases by 5%, 10%, 20% or -5%, -10%,-20% etc. – Instead of a fixed value of n% that is applied for all stocks or from a stock specific application, if a percentage can be assigned to stocks of a specific sector (e.g. All Automobile stocks may increase/decrease by n% whereas all Bank stocks increase/decrease by m%). Currently, I do this by copying the existing Quicken file with a different name and changing the security prices in the new file.
For this, there also has to be a way of downloading / assigning a specific sector for each stock or sector-mix for each mutual fund. (Currently, I use Investment Goal to assign a sector to Security and this is limited to 15 only.) Wishing Intuit and Mint all the very best for future. Also wishing Quicken desktop a special all the very best for future versions and hoping to see all of above and even more features in coming versions. Charlie, this ability – to delete multiple transactions, is already available, although not many people know this.
I’ve run into the exact same issue – having hundreds or thousands of DUPLICATE transactions download into a register (such as after deleting and then re-establishing an on-line connection to a financial institution). Here’s the trick: First, change the SORT order of the register so that items are SORTED BY ORDER ENTERED (Hit the gear then Sorting options then BY ORDER ENTERED). Now scroll up through the register to find the first duplicate downloaded transaction (this will be easier to find if you’ve been reconciling on a regular basis because it will the first unreconciled transaction in the register). Click on the first duplicate transaction. Using the slider bar on the right, scroll to the bottom of the register and then do a SHIFT-CLICK to click on the last transaction.
Now all the duplicate transactions are highlighted/selected. Hit the delete key. Bada-boom, bada-bing. Quicken user since 2001 It would be nice if Quicken knew that IRA withdrawals are income. I would like to be able to set up my own Asset Allocation instead of having to use a spreadsheet. It would be nice if Quicken understood that Bonds and CD’s will someday mature.
Quicken download needs to work better with banks that use 2 step authentication. Make it easier for me to use Dropbox for backup.
I would worry if Quicken went to a cloud only version. This would mean a total loss of privacy, and increased security vulnerability. I would like for the improvements to be real improvements. So when I see a review, there is something I want. Currently I see that 1/2 or more do not like the current arbitrary changes. It would also be nice to have my logitech optical trackball programing work in Quicken. Oh The list goes on and on.
I have been a quicken user since the begining and update when it becomes necessary, for most often the changes are of little or no use and in many cases they take away features that I like. I used to use Microsoft Money as it was better then the current quicken then it went under. Also this ending the download transactions after 3 years is one reason I do not renew. I should be able to use these features for the useful life of the product, say 10 years. 1.) Memorized transaction We need a memorized transaction feature. You have a memorized payee, why not an entire transaction where the category it ties to the payee? 2.) Loan module You used to have a loan module from which one could make the loan payment.
Also, be able to click on the particular payment on the payment history and it would take you to that transaction on the checkbook register. Refer to Quicken versions before 2011. On could set up an account whereby you were the “lender” as opposed to just being the borrower.
You made a fix for this but is too convoluted and unnecessary. Let’s go back to the loan module you had several years ago. Some very simple things they can do 1. Allow an export/import of a single account. I set up separate ledgers for each tax year and want to archive old ones. I don’t want to just delete them. Once a report is setup and a new account is added, don’t just add it to the report.
At the very least make it an option. I have reports setup for specific accounts. Every time I add an account, it gets added to all my custom reports forcing me to update all my reports. Do a better job with the account list positioning. As an example, every time you Update the accounts, it scrolls the account to the top.
No need for that 4. Put depreciation back into the real estate version. Please increase the max number of securities. Currently, it’s only 2000.
While that might sound like a lot, it isn’t when you consider that symbols for Option Securities have changed and each strike price/expiry date/option type now has it’s own unique symbol. I am by no means a “professional” investor but I do buy several (less than 10) options per month.
I’ve used Quicken for 15+ years and I’m getting close to the 2000 limit. Deleting them isn’t an option and I really don’t want to move 1 investment account (out of 23 bank/credit accounts I have) into a entirely new file just because of this limitation. How difficult can it be to to increase the limit to 10K or 100K. You could even offer than in the premier only addition.
I hope you do something. Adjust how the planning tool handles inflation. The tool decreases the overall purchasing power of the portfolio, which makes sense academically. For planning though, it would be helpful to just have the living expenses increase by an inflation factor each year without decreasing the overall portfolio value. The purchasing power approach can, I think, be easily accomplished by just reducing the expected portfolio return by the projected inflation rate but there does not seem to be an easy way to just apply an inflation factor to expenses.
Yes, come on Quicken! You’ve taken so many of the simple functions away.
Pay more attention to the user interface for simple register transactions, bring back easy access to simple register reports. MAKE THE BASIC STUFF WORK AGAIN!! Before adding more bells and whistles. The budget feature is too limited – allow for real world options. I second the requests for improving online download issues, in 2013 I have had innumerable issues with reconciling – double downloads, incomplete downloading, renaming rules are not working despite checked options, customizing options were taken away. Basic stuff here.
I have been using Quicken since 2006 and use it mainly to keep my multiple accounts reconciled and for creating reports. These basic functions have markedly declined since 2010.What’s the problem that Quicken cannot offer a real online tutorial (the support and community are not comprehensive enough) for those of us who would like to use other features.
Ugg Boots Reviews Quicken 2015 For Mac
It is impossible to easily find relevant answers in the new search it is even more restricted. Allow more search parameters – how about by release?
I have spent hours searching for a Q for 2013 only to get 2008 answers that are not applicable. THESE ARE BASIC issues!!!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE think about THIS. I would like to see intuit merge the quicken and mint.com solutions together. For me, it seems that mint.com always has the latest and greatest features working as expected. The best thing about this change is the updating of the User Interface/ User Experience. Quicken is old fasioned, always buggy and complicated for managing ones finances. Mint.com has a great easy to use look and feel to it that needs to be adapted to Quicken.
Ugg Boots Reviews Quicken 2015 For Mac 2017
Mint.com should be the basic online solution for financial management, while Quicken should just add features like they currently do with their packaging. I believe that using the Mint.com app as the base for financial management would also take care of the bugs. This would allow for a vastly bigger user base for beta testing as well since the basic version is free:-). I hope quicken gets there act together and take advantage of this opportunity.
