Voltage is an issue, the DDR3's I'm considering use 1.7 volts, and I don't want it running too hot. I was also wondering, how would you rig multiple motherboards in one system?
I'm not considering doing it, but has it been done, and how was it done? Could you point me to some links? Click to expand.I'm going to assume this motherboard allows for interleaved memory, so assuming that is true, at least by matched pairs.
Assuming your motherboard gives you lots of DIMM slots, I would try to leave some open, as memory prices always go down, and unless you need the memory today, having empty DIMM slots means you can add less expensive higher density memory in the future without throwing out memory. Again, assuming you have lots of DIMM slots, I would avoid paying a premium for high density DIMMs, and use a memory density that gave you the most 'bang for the buck'. I'm thinking that would be 2GB DIMMs (but it has been half a year since I last purchased memory). And then only buy as much as you really need plus a little. But at least 4GB and maybe as much as 8GB, unless you know you need more. And if you have 2 empty DIMM slots, then when 4GB DIMMs become the sweet spot in price, you could add 8GB with just 2 DIMMs. What I would suggest against, is paying a premium for memory you are not going to use.
